Man kills five children,tries to commit suicide

Durga objected to him coming in a drunken state and in a fit of rage Verma allegedly attacked his five children – three girls and two boys – with a grinding stone killing them on the spot,a senior police official said.

He also attacked his wife,who was critically injured.

Then he allegedly attempted suicide by cutting his veins,the official said adding Verma is an alcoholic and used to quarrel frequently with his wife.

The victims were identified as Anjali (12),Priti (10),Ashu(8),Devraj (6),and Priyanka.

“His relatives have told police that he was also suffering with some mental illness and had attacked his children and wife earlier also,” the official said adding they were also investigating whether financial difficulties led to the incident.

The couple was admitted to the district hospital where Verma’s condition was stated to be out of danger while his wife,who suffered serious head injuries,had slipped into coma. The official claimed that Verma has confessed to his crime and said he did not want to live any more.
