‘Bring law to break hands and legs of those who rape minors’, demands Ramdas Athawale

Athawale also expressed concern over the rape and murder of a seven-year-old girl in Lonavala.

NDA ally Ramdas Athawale said on Friday that a law should be made to “break the hands and legs of men who rape minors”. Athawale, an MP from Maharashtra, added that such people “should be given strictest of punishment.”

During the zero-hour in Rajya Sabha, Athawale said, “People who rape minors deserve strictest of punishment. Hands and legs of men who rape minors should broken. A law for this should be enacted in the House and I want to request the Ministry of Home Affairs for the same.”

Athawale’s remarks evoked laughter in the House, but the MP said he was raising a very serious issue.

Athawale also expressed concern over the rape and murder of a seven-year-old girl in Lonavala.

JD(U) MP K C Tyagi raised the issue of stringent punishment for perpetrators of acid attacks. SP’s Jaya Bachchan also asked the government to take action.

MoS for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said, “The issue is serious and the entire House is concerned about it. We will apprise the government about it.”
