Journalists on Friday took out a protest march demanding punishment to the police officer,allegedly involved in opening fire at a news lensman here. Media persons representing local,national and international news organisations protested against the firing on Amaan Farooq,photo-journalist of leading Urdu daily 'Greater Kashmir' yesterday by the deputy superintendent of police Safdar Samoon. The journalists urged Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to get the matter investigated in two days and punish the guilty. Abdullah had yesterday assured Editor-in-Chief of the daily Fayaz Ahmad Kaloo of stern action against the guilty. Meanwhile,Inspector General of Police,Kashmir,Farooq Ahmad has ordered an inquiry into the incidcent. Terming the incident as an "attack on press",senior journalist Altaf Hussain asked the government to frame a proper media policy. Farooq was injured when Samoon allegedly opened fire to force photo journalists to leave a building in the vicinity of the hotel in Lal Chowk area where an encounter was on with militants. Police,however,said the officer's weapon went off accidentally and preliminary investigations showed that the bullet hit the ground and the injury was caused by a stone. Moreover,a medical examination showed no bullet inside the body,a doctor attending on him,said.
