Himachal Pradesh Governor Kalyan Singh to seek ‘love jihad’ report

Earlier last week, the VHP had submitted a memorandum to Governor Urmila Sinngh on the issue of 'love jihad' and conversions.

‘The VHP did claim about about cases of Love Jihad and I had asked them to provide us details .So far,no specific has been provided’, Kalyan Singh said.

On day one after taking over as Himachal Pradesh Governor Kalyan Singh on Wednesday hinted that he would seek a report from the state government on Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP)’s charge about rise in cases of ‘love Jihad’ in the peaceful state.

Earlier in the day Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh had told the reporters that no specific case of ‘ love-jihad’–where the local Hindu girls were lured to marriages by the Muslim youths (from outside) have been brought to his notice.

“The VHP did claim about about cases of Love Jihad and I had asked them to provide us details .So far,no specific has been provided”,he said.

But hours later former Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal—who alongwith BJP MLAs were invited to the Raj Bhawan told the Indian Express that Governor inquired from him about incidences of ‘Love-Jihad’.He must have seen media reports.

“ I told him that VHP made released some details and facts can be verified from the government .To this,he has agreed to ask for the details”, Dhumal said.

Earlier last week, the VHP had submitted a memorandum to Governor Urmila Sinngh on the issue of ‘love jihad’ and conversions. Urmila Singh’s term ended last week and now it’s upto the new Governor to act and ask the details.

A VHP spokesman said the delegation of the organisation will also meet new Governor and provide all the details which were also handed over to Chief Minister.

The VHP members had ,few days back, stop Christians at Pulhara (Solan) from holding a prayer on the pretext they were proposing conversions—a fact later found wrong.
