Gurgaon to get more GPS-enabled buses

To improve public transport in Gurgaon and enhance security of women commuters,the Haryana State Transport Department plans to increase the number of buses in its fleet and install CCTV cameras and GPS devices on buses.

The department also plans to construct two new bus stands in the city — in Sector 29 and an inter-state bus stand at Rajiv Chowk.

Director General of State Transport Arun Kumar said all bus stands in the Haryana would be fitted with CCTV cameras. The city buses in Gurgaon and Faridabad will also get CCTV cameras.

Kumar said the department will increase the number of buses in Gurgaon to 150 in the next four months. These will include 50 AC buses.

With this,Kumar said,the frequency of buses on busy routes will improve.

The department plans to borrow buses from Delhi depot of Haryana Roadways. These buses will ply on the Dhaula Kuan (Delhi) to IMT Manesar route,which,according to Kumar,is the main corridor. The service will continue till the area gets Metro connectivity.

Kumar said new buses for intra-city bus service have been procured from Tata Motors and are being fabricated in Lucknow,UP.

Starting Sunday,the department also brought in a new bus route. The buses on this route go from Metro station in Sector-29 to Badshahpur,via Sectors 40,41,Jharsa,Medicity Hospital,Bakhtawar Chowk,Mayfield Garden and Nirwana.

With this addition,the total number of bus routes in Gurgaon stands at 17. Kumar said five buses would be added to the fleet of super-luxury buses that ply between Gurgaon and Chandigarh.
