The Apex Court-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT) questioned some police officials, including Dy SP K K Mysorewala, for their alleged role in the 2002 post-Godhra riots in Gujarat.
“We had called Mysorewala for questioning as we are examining police’s role during the riot cases which are being probed afresh by the agency,” a senior SIT official said.
Sources said Mysorewala was grilled by the agency officials for more than five hours.
Mysorewala had served as police inspector in Ahmedabad city,Naroda Patia and Naroda village, the sites of some of the most gruesome riots, triggered by the Sabarmati train carnage seven years ago.
Names of the other police officials grilled by the SIT were not disclosed.
The sources said Mysorewala, along Police Inspector V S Gohil, has been summoned to appear before the agency on Wednesday as well.
A number of other police officials, including some from IPS,are going to be summoned for questioning, the SIT official said.
“Earlier,we had summoned police officials, including IPS officers P B Gondia and B D Vaghela, for recording their statements regarding the riots that took place in their jurisdiction,” the official added.
They are being called again as the agency has scrutinised the allegations levelled against them and collected evidence,he said. Those police officials who were posted in areas like Naroda Patia,Naroda Village,Gulbarg Society,Ode village and Sardarpura village during the riots are particularly under scanner, sources in SIT said.
Gohil, who has been summoned tomorrow, was second Police Inspector of Naroda Patia at the time of the riots.
IPS officer Vaghela, who was earlier called for his statement, was SP of Anand district, where Ode massacre had occurred.
Gondia was then Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone IV) and under his jurisdiction, cases like Naroda Patia,Naroda village and Gulbarg Society had taken place.
