Gay rights activists hold rally in Kolkata over SC verdict

Activists feel disappointed with the judgement,call it a violative of basic human rights.

Gay rights activists on Sunday took out a rally in the city expressing disappointment over the Supreme Court verdict restoring criminalization of homosexuality,calling it “violative of basic human rights”.

“We feel disappointed with the judgement. It is violative of basic human rights. We are against it,” they said while demanding restoration of their rights.

They called the verdict as a sad day for Indian democracy.

“A sad day for democracy where the SC bench denies the LGBT community its constitutional right to equality and protection against discrimination,” they said.

On December 11,2013,the Supreme Court set aside the July,2009 Delhi High Court judgement decriminalizing consensual gay sex between adults in private.
