In his first address to booth-level party workers of his constituency after winning the Lok Sabha elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to them to enrol maximum members in BJP from Varanasi and make the party’s membership drive successful.
While highlighting the achievements of his government, he expressed his gratitude to the nearly 6,000 booth-level workers from five Assembly constituencies of Varanasi who had gathered at DLW Ground of the Railways, for their support during the elections.
During his address, Modi also thanked the people of UP for helping BJP form the government at the Centre with a majority. He said a majority government has raised India’s respect in the eyes of other countries.
He also said he had himself not expected such a mandate while contesting the Lok Sabha elections. On the upcoming elections in J&K and Jharkhand, the Prime Minister said he was confident that the voters will give the mandate to BJP in those states like they have done in Haryana and Maharasthra.
While underlining the achievements of his government, he said the pension to 32 lakh old people, who were getting a measly monthly pension, has been hiked to a minimum of Rs 1,000.
Highlighting the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna scheme, he said the poor for the first time have opened accounts in a bank with zero balance. Modi said that after his public appeal on October 2 to purchase at least one khadi cloth, the Khadi Bhandar has recorded an increase of 125 per cent in sale of Khadi products.
Modi also said the prices of petrol and diesel have gone down after he assumed power.
In line with his ‘Clean India’ campaign, Modi appealed to the people in Varanasi to keep the city clean. Modi said he has planned several projects for Varanasi and has held discussions with the officials concerned in this regard.
BJP state president Laxmikant Bajpai, general secretary (organisation) Sunil Bansal, local BJP MLAs of Varanasi were also present on the occasion.
