Doctor couple abducted in Gaya

Police suspect the involvement of an inter-state gang in the abduction.

A doctor and his wife were allegedly abducted on Friday while they were returning to Gaya from Giridih in Jharkhand in a car after attending a wedding party. An FIR has been filed based on the missing report that was lodged by the family.

Police said that they suspected the involvement of an inter-state gang. However, the doctor couple’s family has not reported yet about receiving any ransom call. A contractor was abducted last month from the same spot.

Following the abduction of Dr Pankaj Kumar Gupta, the Bihar chapter of the Indian Medical Association has set a three-day deadline for the police. They said if police fail to find the couple, the doctors in the state would go on a strike.

Dr Gupta’s brother Niraj said the car in which the couple was travelling had crossed Barhi toll plaza in Hazaribagh district at 12.34 pm. The doctor had called up his family in Gaya at 12.30 pm. An hour later, his cellphone was found switched off.

The CCTV footage from Dobhi checkpost showed Dr Gupta’s car being closely chased by another vehicle. Further investigations are on, police said.
