With the BJP taking on the Congress with allegations of vendetta politics as part of its badla-badli campaign,Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh responded on Saturday by training his guns at Leader of Opposition Prem Kumar Dhumal, terming his predecessors tenure as a black-chapter in the states history and wondered why Dhumal was crying hoarse over the governments decision to probe the corruption during his regime.
Addressing a PCC meeting at Kangra Parliamentary constituency, convened here by party chief Sukhwinder Sukhu, the chief minister accused Dhumal of having broken all democratic norms and fabricating cases against political opponents suring his time at the helm.
Virbhadra said that he himself was a victim of political vendetta before the courts provided him relief. Now, when the Congress government which has given a commitment to the public to probe all corruption cases has started taking action,Dhumal has started leveling accusations of political vendetta. Had I resorted to badla badli as Dhumal did during both his regimes,I would have put all of them behind bars without any inquiries, the chief minister declared.
Virbhadra Singh said the government will not touch a single innocent person but warned that those who have misused powers and plundered the states resources will not be spared. The government,so far,has initiated only inquiries, which will be done in an impartial manner,Virbhadra said.
Nowadays his (Dhumals) dreams are also over-shadowed by me because Dhumal sahib knows he is guilty. If he has done no wrong, why should he be afraid of the law, the chief minister said.
Virbhadra seems to have been irked by the memorandum that BJP MLAs had submitted to Governor Urmila Singh alleging political vendetta on Friday.
The chief minister also took aim at Hamirpur MP Anurag Thakur,Dhumals son,and said that Anurag was not the shining star that the BJP was projecting him as. In 10 months of the year,he is either in Delhi or in foreign countries. Not even his tail in seen in Hamirpur. He may have become famous because of being an office bearer of a cricket body but he is not invincible. What is his contribution to Hamirpur after all? Virbhadra asked. He added that even Dhumal – who belongs to Hamirpur – had made no real contribution to the district and claimed that all development work here had been carried out by Congress governments.
