Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his government on Monday came under attack in Lok Sabha over the move against ‘defamatory news’, with BJP saying it was a reminder of the Emergency.

The issue was raised by BJP member from Delhi Meenakshi Lekhi without naming Kejriwal and his government but obviously referring to it.

She said the Chief Minister of Delhi has said that defamation cases should be filed against those who do not write favourable about them.

At the same time, the “good journalists” from their perspective shall be encouraged through awards, Lekhi said. “Such a move an insult to democracy. The House should condemn it,” the BJP member said.

“We cannot have a system in which such news is incentivised with the tax payers money which the government (of Delhi) finds suitable. It’s an attempt to keep the truth away from the people,” she said.

It reminds of Emergency when the media was targeted by the then Congress government at the Centre. She was supported by some other BJP members.
