Communal remarks: JD(U) MP targets PM

Such remarks were made this Sunday, despite the PM’s statement that all religions have equal right, he said.

JD(U) Tuesday tried to put the onus on PM Narendra Modi in the Rajya Sabha over controversial remarks by BJP and VHP leaders like Subramanian Swamy, Sadhvi Prachi and Praveen Togadia. “Does the writ of the PM not run even on the leaders belonging to his own party or he himself is complicit?,” said JD-U member Pawan Varma.

Such remarks were made this Sunday, despite the PM’s statement that all religions have equal right, he said. “I also want to tell BJP that it should stop making this distinction that it is different from these organisations,” he said. He said that at a ‘Virat Hindu Sammelan’ of VHP, a remark was made about continuance of the ‘ghar wapsi’ programme. In this context, Varma cited a comment made by Swamy and said “the person should be arrested”.

At a VHP event in Dehradun Sunday, its leader Sadhvi Prachi had called for a boycott of films starring Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan and asked right-wing outfits to make a bonfire of the posters of their films.
