Businessman arrested for supplying fake registration plates

A Delhi-based businessman was on Monday arrested from the national capital for allegedly supplying fake high security number plates for vehicles in Goa.

A Delhi-based businessman was on Monday arrested from the national capital for allegedly supplying fake high security number plates for vehicles in Goa.

Ravi Somani,Director of Utsav Safety Systems Private Limited,was arrested from Vasant Vihar in South Delhi at 0545 hours,a senior Goa police official,who is in Delhi,said.

“He will be brought to Goa by this evening. We have also started arresting the local dealers who were supplying these plates,” Deputy Superintendent of Police Umesh Gaonkar said.

“One dealer is already under the custody of Margao police. He was arrested last night,” he said.

Margao police had received complaint from the state transport department that the firm was illegally installing High Security Registration Plates (HSRP).

The installation of the tamper-proof registration plates having unique identification mark with certification of the transport authority was started by the Goa government in July and contract was awarded to ‘Shinmit Utsch’.
