BSP MLA served notice for entering forest with arms

Man-eater tigress strayed into Barhapur area killing several people and animals creating panic among people.

A notice has been issued against BSP MLA Mohd Ghazi for wandering into the reserved forest with arms aiming to kill a man-eater tigress, which had created panic in the area, a forest department official said.

Divisional Forest Officer, Najibabad, had issued a notice to the Barhapur MLA Wednesday asking him not to enter the forest with arms or shooting at any wild animal, otherwise it would take legal action against him, Chief Forest Warden of Bareilly, M P Singh, said Thursday.

A man-eater tigress had strayed into Barhapur area killing several people and animals in the past few weeks and created panic among the people.

Earlier, as efforts by the forest department to catch the beast did not yield any results, Ghazi set out with a few villagers to search the tigress and shoot it down with his gun. But he could not continue his search, as he had to head to Lucknow for attending the UP Assembly.

The Forest department has appointed five shooters for searching the man-eater tigress in as many sectors of Barhapur and Sahuwallah ranges. The tigress has so far eluded all efforts by the forest officials to trace her out.
