Rs 25 lakh for Sudan martyrs family Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Thursday said the state government will give economic assistance of Rs 25 lakh to the family of deceased Lt Colonel Mahipal Singh,who along with four other soldiers,died in a gunfight with armed rebels in South Sudan. Hailing from Haryana,Mahipal Singh was deployed in Sudan as part of the UN Mission in Sudan. HC notice on birth outside hospital Chandigarh: Treating a letter,written by a law student as a PIL,the Punjab and Haryana High Court Thursday took suo motu notice of an incident wherein a woman delivered a child outside a general hospital in Fatehabad,Haryana. Anil Saini,the student,had written to the HC requesting it to direct Haryana to award suitable compensation to the woman. A division bench issued notices to Haryana on the PIL. The case has been adjourned to May 7. Retd HC judges to head child panels Chandigrah: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday ruled that the child rights protection commissions have to be headed by retired judges of the high court. The directions came from a division bench,which was hearing six petitions related to protection of child rights in Punjab,Haryana and Chandigarh. The court also ordered that chairperson and members of the commissions should be selected by a selection committee headed by retired high court judges. HC stays declaration of results by HSTSB Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court Thursday stayed the declaration of result pertaining to selection of teachers by the Haryana and Haryana School Teachers Selection Board. The directions were passed by a division bench headed by Justice Hemant Gupta while hearing a case wherein it was alleged that the state government bent the rules and raised the retirement age under the selection criteria for members and chairman of the Board to favour relatives and favourites of the chief minister and other politicians.
