Bombay HC to hear Salman Khan’s appeal against conviction from July 30

In a related development, the judge also dismissed an intervention plea for granting a stay on the hearing on the ground that the applicant had no locus standi in the matter.

The Bombay High Court will commence hearing on the appeal filed by actor Salman Khan against his five-year jail term in the 2002 hit-and-run case from July 30.

The actor’s counsel Amit Desai informed the HC on Monday that a plea had been filed before the Supreme Court in the matter and he had learnt about the same through media. The matter was showing on the SC’s board also.

On May 8, the High Court had granted bail to Khan till disposal of his appeal. It had also said that the actor would need to seek the court’s permission every time he wants to travel abroad. The court had directed for expeditious hearing of the appeal.Meanwhile, the court dismissed an intervention application seeking a stay on the hearing on Khan’s appeal, alleging that appeals of celebrities were being heard out of turn.

During the last hearing Desai had sought copies of two CDs which are part of the paper book. The court directed the registry to supply copies of the CDs and English translations of some additional documents to the defence team.
