Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Saturday said the anti-farmer stance of the Congress-led UPA government has broken the back of the farmers who have played a pivotal role in making the country self-reliant in food production.
Addressing a massive gathering after administering oath to newly elected sarpanchs and panchs of Mansa and Bathinda districts here on Saturday,the chief minister said an exorbitant hike in costs of agricultural inputs and non-remunerative prices have increased the troubles of the hard working farmers of Punjab.
Praising Harsimrat Kaur Badal,the Bathinda Member of Parliament (MP),the chief minister said she had raised issues concerning her constituency in Parliament. Apart from political issues Harsimrat Kaur had played a key role in fighting against various social maladies prevalent in the state,he said.
The Chief Minister exhorted the newly elected sarpanchs and panchs to play a vital role in the growth of state by supporting the Punjab government. He also called upon them to vow that they would plant 1000 saplings every year.
Later the Chief Minister and Harsmirat Kaur Badal handed over free saplings to sarpanchs and panchs.
Earlier the Chief Minister inaugurated the University Girls College and District Suvidha Kendra besides laying down the foundation stones of 66 KV Grid,expansion of District Administrative Complex and Child Mother care Hospital in the city.
