Hours after the four ousted AAP leaders — Yogendra Yadav, Prashant Bhushan, Anand Kumar and Ajit Jha — were sent showcause notices by the party’s disciplinary committee, the leaders questioned the composition of the committee probing the case and alleged that “complainants” were being made “judges”. The leaders also alleged that the grounds on which they had been removed from the party’s decision-making bodies are missing from the notices.
Terming the entire episode of being issued showcause notices a “joke” and a “farce”, Yadav lashed out at the party for allegedly leaking information about the notices to the media before the leaders had received them.
Its funny. ‘Sources’ leaked content of my Show Cause Notice even before I received it. The Notice charges me with leaking news! #WhatAJoke
— Yogendra Yadav (@AapYogendra) April 18, 2015
Yadav, in a post on a social media platform, said, “Even details of charges against us were being reported by the media. It was even reported that we will be given only 48 hours to reply. So, our notices was given to the media before it reached us.”
“Incidentally, one of the charges against me in the notice is that I leak information,” Yadav said.
Yadav was removed from the party’s highest decision-making bodies last month on charges of indulging in “anti-party activities”.
The AAP had also accused Bhushan and Yadav of trying to ensure that the AAP did not win the Delhi Assembly polls. A section of the AAP had also said Yadav had wanted to oust party chief Arvind Kejriwal from the position of the National Convenor in order to “grab it for himself”.
Commenting on the notice’s content, Yadav said, “In the entire notice, there is not a word on whether I tried to ensure the party’s defeat in the polls. There are no charges saying that I conspired to be the party’s national convenor. On the basis of these accusations, a propaganda was run against me… Today, when it is time for investigation, where did these charges go on the basis of which we were called traitors in the National Council meeting? If these accusations were wrong, who will apologise for that?”
The disciplinary committee, which earlier had Bhushan on its panel, was recently reconstituted to include national secretary Pankaj Gupta and leader Ashish Khetan. The committee is now headed by AAP leader from Goa, Dinesh Waghela.
Questioning the committee’s re-constitution, Yadav said Gupta had signed a statement accusing Bhushan and him “of anti-party activities”.
The AAP has given the leaders till 6 pm on Sunday to respond to the notices.
