2002 hit-and-run case: SC refuses to hear plea seeking cancellation of Salman Khan’s bail

Earlier on July 27, the apex court had dismissed Patil's plea seeking transfer of Khan's appeal against his conviction and five-year jail term in the case, out of the Bombay HC.

The Supreme Court on Monday refused to entertain yet another plea seeking cancellation of bail granted to Bollywood actor Salman Khan by the Bombay High Court in the 2002 hit-and-run case. “We are sorry. The petitioner is permitted to withdraw the petition,” said a bench of Chief Justice H L Dattu and Justice Amitava Roy.

A month ago, the court had dismissed a petition filed by the mother of a deceased Mumbai police constable who was eyewitness to the accident, seeking transfer of the hit-and-run case from Mumbai to Delhi and cancellation of Khan’s bail. The fresh petition was also filed by Sushila Bai Himmat Rao Patil, mother of deceased constable Ravindra Patil, who was Salman’s bodyguard at the time. Patil died from tuberculosis in 2007.
