Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray was discharged from Lilavati Hospital here on Wednesday after eight days of treatment for his fever and stomach ailment.
The leader,however,did not undergo the proposed endoscopy on Wednesday under the supervision of gastroenterologist Dr D Nageshwar Reddy,who was specially called in from Hyderabad. The decision to forego the procedure was taken in a closed-door meeting of Dr Reddy,anaesthetist Dr Satish Kulkarni,Thackeray and son Uddhav.
The Sena chief will continue to undergo tests at repeated intervals under the supervision of Dr Reddy,who will recommend the further course of treatment. Thackeray was hospitalised on July 24 after he complained of breathlessness,acute constipation and fever.
Several leaders,including Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar and BJP president Nitin Gadkari,had visited Thackeray at the hospital. His estranged nephew and MNS president Raj Thackeray and his family had also visited him.
