The Haryana government on Friday appointed Justice (retd) Iqbal Singh as head of an inquiry commission to probe violence that broke out in Rewari over land acquisition on July 22.
Justice Singh is a retired judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The Commission will complete its inquiry and submit its report to the state government within a period of three months,a spokesman said.
The state government had stayed further land acquisition proceedings till the two bodies constituted by the government submit their reports.
State Industries Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala will head the government committee,which will also have Health Minister Rao Narender Singh and other officials as its members,the farmers will decide their 11 committee members.
The report will be submitted to the Chief Minister.
Villagers opposing land acquisition had on Sunday clashed with police,torched several vehicles and blocked the Delhi-Jaipur national highway as cops opened fire on a mob at village Asalwas in Rewari.
