‘Chidambaram should quit’

Swamy alleged that today's attack was a "gross lapse" on the part of Chidambaram.

Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy on Tuesday demanded resignation of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram following the killing of over 70 security personnel in a Maoist ambush in Chattisgarh.

Swamy alleged that today’s attack was a “gross lapse” on the part of Chidambaram and said just a “sorry” from the Home Minister “won’t do.”

“I demand that Chidambaram atone by resigning forthwith from the Cabinet for this gross lapse which enabled a terrorist organisation to kill so many of our jawans. If he does not do so,the prime minister must sack him,” he said in a statement here.

Security personnel engaged in ‘Operation Green Hunt’ were ambushed by Maoists in the morning. While 72 of them were CRPF personnel, including a deputy and an assistant commandant, one was a head constable of the district police.

After the attack,Chidambaram had said something must have gone “drastically wrong” in the joint operation as the personnel seemed to have walked into a trap.
