48,226 applications received for cross-LoC travel: J-K Govt

The Jammu and Kashmir government today said that as many as 48,226 applications have been received from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) for cross-LoC travel between PoK and the state.

The Jammu and Kashmir government today said that as many as 48,226 applications have been received from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) for cross-LoC travel between PoK and the state.

As many as 48,226 applications have been received from divided families of India and PoK,Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said in state Assembly.

Of these,23,335 applications from Indian Nationals were received upto December 31,2011,he said adding of these,17,630 applications have been cleared while 5141 applications were not recommended and the remaining 264 cases are under process.

Similarly,24,891 applications from PoK Nationals were received upto December 31,2011,he said adding of these,19,847 applications have been cleared while 3175 were not recommended and remaining 1869 cases are under process.

“The present system is operating effectively,however,a member of steps have been taken to ease the travel and trade across the LoC”,he said.

The introduction of triple entry permit system for senior citizens and introduction of multiple entry system is under consideration,he said.

The number of days of travel have also been increased from two to four days,he said.

The state government said that 4365 members of the divided families travelled between Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) during the last two years.

As many as 4365 persons including 1161 Indian nationals and 3204 POK nationals travelled across Line of Control (LOC) between J&K and POK during past two years,Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said in a written reply to the question of PDP member A R Veeri in Legislative Assembly here today.

Of these,1738 persons including 537 Indian nationals and 1201 POK national travelled via two cross LoC points- Srinagar-Muzaffarabad and Poonch-Rawalkote trans-LoC roads in 2010,he said.

Similarly,2627 persons,including 624 Indian nationals and 2003 POK nationals travelled via two cross-LoC roads in 2011,he said.
