Girl slits 12-yr-old brother’s throat, sets body on fire in Uttar Pradesh

City Kotwali Police SHO Rakesh Kumar said locals at Purana Hata area near Police Lines spotted smoke billowing from a house around 3 pm. “They rushed to the house to find the doors locked from outside. They broke in and found the 16-year-old girl standing in a room while the body of the 12-year-old was enveloped in flames. Locals doused the flames and called up their parents after informing the police,” he added.

“The couple later said they left the house locked as they were fed up of receiving complaints about their younger daughter being involved with boys in the locality. They said the boys used to come to their home when they were away,” he added.

“During questioning, the girl confessed to the crime. She said her brother was sleeping when she — with the help of her boyfriend who entered the house through the terrace — slit his throat. He died in minutes. To conceal the crime, they sprinkled kerosene on the body and set it on fire,” said Kumar.

The girl’s father is a daily wage labourer and mother works as domestic help. The couple’s elder son and daughter also do small jobs, said the SHO.

The police are yet to get hold of the girl’s alleged boyfriend. “She initially gave the name of a neighbour, but he was in school when the crime took place. Later, she named another person, but he too somewhere else. She has now named one more boy and we are trying to get hold of him,” said the SHO.
