‘Sarbat Khalsa’ organisers Mann, Mohkam Singh taken into ‘preventive custody’

Shiromani Akal Dal (Amritsar) president Simranjit Singh Mann and United Akali Dal president Mohkam Singh, the organisers of ‘Sarbat Khalsa’ held on Tuesday, were rounded up by Punjab police from their residences in Amritsar in the wee hours on Wednesday.

Amritsar Commissioner of Police Jatinder Singh Aulakh said the duo had been taken into “preventive custody”. He added that they had announced to make an address at Akal Takht today and there was a “threat to law and order situation and likely violence”.

“We will give more details later in the day,” Aulakh said.

Some reports said that Amrik Singh Ajnala, who was appointed as “jathedar” of Takht Keshgarh Sahib in the “Sarbat Khalsa” yesterday was also “detained” at his house.

“My father was taken away by police after cops entered the house using a ladder and broke open the lock of inside door to arrest my father,” alleged Mohkam Singh’s son Sukhdeep Singh. “The police party came at around 3 am,” he added.
