Senior RSS leader Indresh Kumar slams conversion, says Muslims sidelined their own icons

He was talking to students at a Dwarka school on the occasion of former president APJ Abdul Kalam's 84th birth anniversary. Minister of State, PMO, Jitendra Singh was also present during the function.

Senior RSS leader Indresh Kumar on Wednesday said though god made religion for everyone, there were some people who are damaging it by making people convert.

He was talking to students at a Dwarka school on the occasion of former president APJ Abdul Kalam’s 84th birth anniversary. Minister of State, PMO, Jitendra Singh was also present during the function.

Speaking on the occasion, Kumar said, “You may see politicians giving inflammatory speeches and then you see because of unemployment and poverty people have converted. You should know that god made religion for everyone but some people are damaging it by making others convert. When you witness all these problems in life, all you could recall is your physics, maths and other books. These books will not give any solution to the problems you may face. Kalam realised this.”

He advised the students to inculcate moral values along with academic curriculum to prepare themselves for “social problems they will witness in life”.

Praised Kalam for inculcating those moral values, the RSS leader said, “Besides his nuclear physics books, he (Kalam) realised he has to be with children and encourage them to be curious. He also realised that every religion is to be respected and only then people can be happy. This is the reason why he is the most admired heroic personality for youngsters.”

Paying tributes to Kalam, MoS Jitendra Singh targeted the previous Congress government for being unenthusiastic about science.

“I salute scientists like Homi Bhabha and Kalam who achieved so much even when there were adverse conditions and no support from the government. Today, we have a prime minister with scientific outlook,” Singh added.

Later in the evening at another function to mark Kalam’s birth anniversary, Indresh Kumar said that “Islamic fundamentalists had also started accepting Kalam as their icon as opposed to Yakub, Ajmal, Owaisi and Azam”. He called the former President not “religiously fundamentalist but religiously bharatiya”.

On being asked by someone from the audience to also celebrate Maulana Abul Kalam Azad at par with APJ Abdul Kalam, Kumar said the suggestion could be considered but the onus lay on Muslims. “You do not celebrate your Muslim icons and allowed them to be pushed to the sidelines. It was your own fault. We will do what we can but the onus lies on you, don’t try to push it on us,” he said.
