On day of Vijay Mallya’s ‘exit’, govt replies to his 3 questions

In another question, Mallya wanted to know whether the Karnataka government had on August 17, 2015, referred to the Home Ministry the Karnataka Municipal Corporations (Amendment) Bill, 2015, for getting the President’s assent, and by when the assent would be communicated to the state.

Mallya’s third question was whether the Karnataka government had in December 2013 and December 2014, respectively, proposed to set up Coastal Police Stations and increase sanctioned strength of Railway Police. He sought to know the present stage of consideration of these proposals; and by when these proposals are likely to be approved.

Replying to the last question, MoS (Home) Kiren Rijiju stated that the ministry has not received any proposal from Karnataka for setting up Coastal Police Stations, initiated in December 2013. However, under the Coastal Security Scheme, nine coastal police stations have been sanctioned to Karnataka, the minister stated.

Rijiju also stated that no such proposal for increase in sanctioned strength of Karnataka Railway Police is under consideration at the level of the Railways Ministry.

Replying to the question on Karnataka State Motor Vehicles (Special Provisions) Bill, 2015, MoS Home Haribhai Parthibhai Chaudhary stated that it was forwarded by the state government for the President’s assent and received by the MHA on September 1, 2015, and that the President’s assent to the Bill was obtained and conveyed to the state government on February 15 this year.

On Mallya’s third question regarding the Karnataka Municipal Corporations (Amendment) Bill, Chaudhary replied that the MHA received it from the state on August 10, 2015. The Bill, he replied, was examined in consultation with the concerned central ministries or departments and their views on the Bill were conveyed to the state.

As reported earlier by The Indian Express, a Parliament Question for the ongoing session from Mallya had popped up in the Railways Ministry. Mallya was keen to know about India’s proposed bullet train project.
