A DELHI court Tuesday ordered Payal Abdullah, estranged wife of former J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah, to evict the Akbar Road bungalow, which was allotted to Omar initially during his tenure as Union minister and then as J&K chief minister.

District and Sessions Judge Amar Nath dismissed Payal’s application challenging the eviction notice issued on June 30 by the Estate Officer of the Jammu and Kashmir government.

Payal, through her advocate Amit Khemka, contended that the bungalow was allotted to her husband by the central government. Khemka, therefore, argued that the Estate Officer of J&K government could not demand the eviction.

Also, Khemka said the central government had given Payal and her two children Z and Z Plus security, respectively. The total security personnel in such a scenario was 94 — and smaller accommodation was inadequate. To support his argument, the lawyer handed out a list of eight such allottees who have been given government accommodation and have VIP security.

Omar was first allotted the bungalow in 1999 by the Ministry of Urban Development when he was an MP from J&K.
