Pakistani High Commissioner to India Abdul Basit said Monday that it was “unfortunate” that a narrative had been formed in India that his country was trying to spread terror from across the border.
A narrative has been formed that “Pakistan ek dehshatgarda mulq hai, woh dehshat ko support karta hai aur India ko destablise karta hai (Pakistan is a sponsor of terror trying to destabilise India)”, said Basit, claiming that no other country had suffered due to terrorism like Pakistan. He was in Lucknow to attend an event organised by news portal Patrika.com of Rajasthan Patrika Group.

He emphasised on looking at reasons behind the strained ties, including terrorism and Kashmir, while focusing on confidence building measures. He was quick to point out a different narrative in Pakistan about terror. “Humein bhi mehsoos hota hai ki dehshatgardi ke jo waqye hote hain to unke peechhe foreign forces hain (We also feel that there are foreign forces behind incidents of terror).”
On the Uri attack , Basit said that without much probe Pakistan was blamed for everything by the media.
“Jabse Delhi mein aaya ek narrative hai ki deshshatgardi ki wajah se taluquat sahi nahi hain. Ek had tak sahi hai (From the time I have come here, there is a narrative that terrorism is to blame for our bad relations. This is only true to some extent),” said Basit.
Citing the Shimla agreement and Lahore declaration, he said that both countries believe that for the purpose of peace, the Kashmir issue should be resolved.
