The BJP’s win in Assam Assembly polls suggests a rising confidence of the minorities in the party because of the NDA government’s public welfare schemes, she said.

Pointing to the BJP’s victory in Assam, Union Minister of Minority Affairs Najma Heptulla Tuesday said that over the past two years minority communities have developed a “sense of confidence in the Modi sarkaar” because of the government’s public welfare schemes.

“The BJP’s win in Assam Assembly polls suggests a rising confidence of the minorities in the party because of the NDA government’s public welfare schemes… The fear among minorities has definitely gone down and confidence (in the Modi government) has increased. Confidence building takes some time,” she said.

She also predicted that BJP would “perform well in Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls”, due next year, owing to the “development agenda of Modi government,”

As compared to the UPA government, she said, the NDA government made more funds available for the welfare of six minority communities — 18.4 per cent more funds under the multi-sectoral development programme (MSDP) for minorities as compared to the UPA government. “In 2012-13 and 2013-14, the UPA government had released Rs 641.26 crore and Rs 953.21 crore, respectively, for the MSDP. The NDA government, on the other hand, gave Rs 767.86 crore in 2014-15 and Rs 1120.34 crore for 2015-16,” she said.
