N K Singh gets top Japanese national award

The prestigious award will be conferred on Singh by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at a ceremony at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo on May 10 followed by an audience with Emperor Akihito.

The Government of Japan has announced the conferment of the ‘Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star’, its second highest national decoration, on bureaucrat-turned-politician and former MP N K Singh for his contribution in boosting Indo-Japan relations over the last few decades.

The prestigious award will be conferred on Singh by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at a ceremony at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo on May 10 followed by an audience with Emperor Akihito.

The honour is a recognition of the catalytic role played by N K Singh in the furtherance of Indo-Japanese economic relations over decades. He served in Japan during the investment decision of Maruti-Suzuki and the forays of the Japanese automobile companies to India. As a member of the board of Nalanda University, his continuing endeavours for a greater Japanese engagement in the university in strengthening educational and cultural relations as a symbol of Asian Renaissance.
