Punjab: Man held for chopping off hands of teen who ‘raped’ his daughter

Police added that the rape victim's father confessed that after Tuesday's court hearing was postponed, he had proposed a compromise, and also offered to drop the teenager home on his motorbike.

Bathinda Police Wednesday arrested the man accused of chopping off the hands of a teenager who allegedly raped his 7-month-old daughter in 2014.

Police said that the accused was apprehended near Jhumba, the village where the incident happened. “We arrested him from an area around Jhumba…We are yet to locate the sharp-edged weapon that was used in this crime,” said SP Bikramjeet Singh, who handled the operation to nab the accused.

According to the police, the accused showed no remorse and was even upset on being told that the 7-year-old had survived the attack. Police added that the rape victim’s father confessed that after Tuesday’s court hearing was postponed, he had proposed a compromise, and also offered to drop the teenager home on his motorbike.

“He offered him a drink mixed with an intoxicant on the ride back. The victim was not in his senses when his hands were chopped off,” said SP Bikramjeet, adding that police had reached the spot within 20 minutes of the crime and rushed the victim to the Bathinda civil hospital.

But a reconstructive surgery could not be performed on the teenager despite police handing over the limbs to the doctors within six hours of the incident.
