Kerala Vigilance recommends prosecution of VS Achuthanandan’s son

The recommendation against Achuthanandan’s son has come out when the CPI (M)-led Opposition has been playing to the hilt the bar bribery case against K M Mani on the eve of the local body elections.

The Vigilance has recommended that Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan’s son V A Arunkumar be prosecuted in connection with the financial irregularities at Coirfed. Arunkumar had been the managing director of Coirfed, an apex body of coir cooperative societies in Kerala.

The recommendation against Achuthanandan’s son has come out when the CPI (M)-led Opposition has been playing to the hilt the bar bribery case against Finance Minister K M Mani on the eve of the local body elections. The vigilance had registered an FIR against Arunkumar in December, 2014, when the Opposition had started an agitation against Mani in the bar bribery scandal.

According to the Vigilance, Arunkumar and two others had committed a financial fraud of Rs 47 lakh in connection with the construction of warehouse for the Coirfed in 2001 when he had been its managing director. The case had been registered based on complaint from a person named Mohandas. The other two alleged accused in the case are consultant R K Ramesh and contractor Muhammed Al.

The Vigilance had found that Arunkumar went ahead with the construction of the godown without obtaining technical and administrative sanctions for the work. Arunkumar misguided the Coirfed director board regarding the construction.
