The report quoted the collector as saying that the temple authorities were denied permission to run the fireworks based on the police report submitted on April 6, which said there was not enough space for an event of this scale. However, two days later the police gave a report saying it was okay to run the fireworks show. Since it was not clear how the assessment had changed in two days, the administration refused to change its initial order.

The collector said she has asked for a report from the local police on how and why they changed their report. She said the police’s stand that they had been misinformed does not hold water. The collector said the police’s negligence, letting the show go on, was the prime cause of the disaster.
