The Kerala High Court on Wednesday ordered that local bodies should take steps for effective control of stray dogs.
While considering a bunch of petitions on stay dog menace, the Court said rabid and diseased dogs should be killed.
Recently, the police had begun registering criminal cases against those who caught and poisoned stray dogs. The police action, citing a circular from the animal welfare board of India, had evoked widespread protests.
Businessman Kochaouseph Chittilapally had staged a fast last week against the police move.
