CM Mehbooba Mufti
Reacting to Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s statement that security personnel involved in the July 8 encounter were not aware that Hizbul commander Burhan Wani was among the militants, the opposition National Conference said Thursday that Mehbooba was “lying”.
NC provincial president Nasir Aslam Wani said it was “ironic and ridiculous” that the chief minister termed Wani’s killing a “coincidence” while allegedly releasing lakhs of rupees as reward money from her “secret fund” for security personnel who took part in the encounter.
“If Mehbooba Mufti thinks that she can make a case that she wasn’t aware that a special team was dispatched from Srinagar to neutralise Burhan Wani, she is living in a fool’s paradise,’’ he said. “This is a cruel joke from a completely clueless CM,” he added.
The NC leader also condemned the “insensitive and inappropriate” statement from the CRPF DG, supporting the use of pellet guns that have “blinded and maimed hundreds of young boys and girls in the Valley”.
He said the state government’s “silence” in this matter was “shameless”. “Are we living in a democracy or in an Orwellian tyrannical system where security forces will decide on policy matters? The Union Home Minister has failed all expectations by not ordering a ban on pellet guns,’’ Wani said. “This state of chaos, confusion and deflection of responsibility peppered with daily contradictions that expose the CM’s hypocrisy cannot be an alternative to governance.”
