“Four to five persons, whom we suspect to be Maoist operatives, reached the station and opened fire in air to intimidate the railway staff manning the passenger train. They also threatened the station master. They then snatched the walkie-talkie sets from them. The local police reached the spot soon. But by that time, they had escaped,” said Jamshedpur Senior Superintendent of Police Anoop T Matthew, who reached the spot around midnight.

“The train was detained for over an hour because we did not want any untoward incident to follow after that. Subsequently, it was allowed to move ahead to its destination under escort. As a result, the normal railway traffic got disrupted. However, the railway personnel have told us that there was no instance of kidnapping or the Maoists hurling a bomb,” said Matthew. He added that the police would de-activate the wireless sets snatched by the Maoists.
