India-Pak T20 match: AAP also joins chorus, CM Virbhadra says govt not running away from its duty

"Our party's stand is very clear. India should play cricket with only friendly nations and not those who were supporting terrorism or sending trained militants to attack India," Dr Rajan Sushant.

India Pakistan t20 match, India Pak t20 controversy, India Pak match dharamshala, India Pak match row “Our party’s stand is very clear. India should play cricket with only friendly nations and not those who were supporting terrorism or sending trained militants to attack India,” said Dr Rajan Sushant.

Clouds of uncertainty still continue to overshadow World T20 cricket match between India and Pakistan slated for March 19 as political wars are at work to fire more salvos against BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur.

The Aam Admi Party (AAP), which has been maintaining a distance from the controversy so far, also joined the chorus on Saturday to oppose the BCCI’s move to host the match at Dharamshala.

The party asserted that it was opposed to the match even elsewhere in the country. Interacting with mediapersons, state convenor of the party Dr Rajan Sushant said, he fully supports the stand taken by Major (Retd) Vijai Singh Mankotia, President Indian Exservices League, as the match with Pakistan will hurt the sentiments of all the martyrs’ families whether those belonging to Pathankot airbase attack, Pampore or Kargil war.

Dr Sushant, formerly a BJP MP from Kangra, however did not elaborate if he will also be part of the local protests.

“Our party’s stand is very clear. India should play cricket with only friendly nations and not those who were supporting terrorism or sending trained militants to attack India and claim lives of jawans guarding the borders. Has Prime Minister Narendra Modi forgotten his own words to claim 10 heads for one soldier killed by the Pakistanis?” he asked.

Dr Sushant said Pakistan was still at proxy war with India and there is no scope for allowing Pakistan team to come to Dharamshala. The wounds of the martyrs’ families are yet to heal and BCCI is trying to rub salt on that.

“It’s also wrong to allege that there was politics in opposing the match. It’s BCCI which is trying to make it a tamasha by inviting the Pakistan team on the soil, which has nearly two lakh servicemen and over a lakh serving soldiers. There should not be match with Pakistan in any of the Indian states,” he said.

Contrary to the stand taken by state’s Advocate General Shravan Dogra in the high court on Friday assuring a bench led by Chief Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir to provide security at the match, Deputy Advocate General Vinay Kumar today addressed mediaersons announcing his own plan to hold protest at ‘Shaheed Samark’, Dharamshala on March 8.

“Families of the martyrs will assembly at the samarak and climb on top of the vintage Pakistani tank there to unfurl national tricolour as mark of protest and also victory for ‘stopping’ the match. “Till now, Pakistan Cricket Board has not given its clearance to the match as they know match will be not be allowed,” he added.

Asked why he being state’s deputy advocate general taking a different stand, a Dharamshala lawyer—who had filed some cases against HPCA earlier, said he was with families of the martyrs.

Earlier in the day, responding to media persons about the stand taken by the government in high court, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said, “The government will fulfill its constitutional obligation, but as said earlier I will not use force to push martyrs families or servicemen if they hold protests at Dharmshala on the day of the match. It’s upto Anurag Thakur to take a call whether he goes ahead to hurt the sentiments of the martyrs or respect the their sentiments.”
