New Goa RSS chief backs Subhash Velingkar’s demand, slams Manohar Parrikar

Laxman Behare added that the state RSS will use all means under the framework of the constitution to express its concerns to the state government and demand the implementation of MOI.

goa-rss1 Laxman Behare said that the state RSS will use all means under the framework of the constitution to express its concerns to the state government and demand the implementation of MOI.

Days after his appointment as the new Goa Vibhag Chief of RSS, Laxman Behare reiterated former Sanghachalak Subhash Veligkar’s view that the BJP government should have stuck to its pre-poll promise of implementing Medium of Instruction (MOI) in regional language and withdraw grants to English medium schools.

Speaking to The Indian Express, the 63-year old said that the Goa Vibhag would not agitate against the state government, but hold discussion for speedy implementation of Bharatiya Basha Suraksha Manch’s demands on MOI. “RSS completely supports BBSM’s demands over regional language in primary educational institutions, it is a mandate supported by the RSS since March 2015. Then Chief Minister (Manohar Parrikar) also campaigned for the same, he must have immediately implemented on assuming power,” Behare said.

Laxman added that the state RSS will use all means under the framework of the constitution to express its concerns to the state government and demand the implementation of MOI. Without taking any names, Behare said that after winning the 2012 polls, BJP seemed to have drifted away on its earlier commitment on MOI. “Unlike RSS, which is completely committed for the cause of protecting Indian culture, BJP is a political party. It may have several ‘political’ repercussion or implication while taking decisions, subsequently the same might be the reason for non implementation of MOI,” he said.

The retired-school teacher, who has been associated with RSS for 47-years, said that there was no question of appointing new office bearers for the state unit nor a question rose of a parallel RSS wing in the state. “As reported in some media, one can’t resign from RSS. We will talk to Subhash Velingkar and the entire team to resume their role in the organization and work for it. It’s simple. They can however now commit to BBSM in a much better manner and we will support their cause,” he said.

On being asked about RSS Vibhag’s equation with the BJP in the 2017 state polls, Laxman said that RSS never advised or dictated its Swayamsevaks to vote for a particular party. “RSS is apolitical organization, we have never told our workers to vote for BJP or any any other party. It is their decision to make their choice, even in 2017 RSS workers will vote as per their judgement,” he said.
