Ahmadabad: Over 1 crore to participate at 40,000 locations in state says education minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama

The state-level celebrations are being held at GMDC ground in Ahmedabad where at least 70,000 people are expected to participate.

An attempt to perform yoga on holy hilltops will be made in Gujarat on the International Yoga Day, where an estimated 1.25 crore yoga enthusiasts are expected to participate in the celebrations on June 21.

“This year, yoga day celebrations are being organised at more locations and will involve more people. Last year, 1.09 crore people had participated. This year, we expect an estimated 1.25 crore to participate at about 40,000 different locations across the state,” said Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, the state education minister while addressing mediapersons Saturday.

Listing out unique events to be held on the International Yoga Day, Chudasama, said, “Among the unique places where yoga will be performed this year, include the Mount Girnar (in Junagadh district), where 100 students will run to the peak and perform yoga.”

This hill has the height of about 1,000 metres. Yoga will also be performed atop Pavagadh hill (800 metres) near the Mahakali temple located in Panchmahal district and Taranga Hill in Mehsana district which is an important centre of Jain pilgrimage. The other locations where yoga will be performed in large groups include the banks of Sharmistha lake in Vadnagar, the hometown of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the ancient Sun temple at Modhera, Becharaji temple, Kadana Dam, etc.

The state-level celebrations are being held at GMDC ground in Ahmedabad where 70,000 people are expected to participate. It is here where a record-breaking human chain will be attempted, the minister said. Chief Minister Anandiben Patel and Governor O P Kohli will attend at the event at the GMDC ground.

At Nikol in Ahmedabad, Union Home Minister J P Nadda will take part in the yoga camp.
Apart from school- and college-going students, those who will participate in these celebrations across the state include yoga enthusiasts from Patanjali, Art of Living, Lakulesh Yoga University, Brahmakumaris and similar organisations, he added.

In Ahmedabad, Yoga Day celebrations will be held at 1,291 locations where over nine lakh people are expected to participate. A total of 900 teachers have been trained as “master trainers” and they will provide training to the students in the district.
