Continuing its attack on Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on the alleged corruption in the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) during his tenure, the Delhi government Sunday announced the setting up of a Commission of Inquiry to look into the allegations.

Sources in the government said Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had written to senior advocate and former soliciter general Gopal Subramanium to chair the commission. He has agreed to do so, said Kejriwal in a tweet.

Even as former cricketer and BJP leader Kirti Azad levelled charges of corruption against Jaitley, AAP reiterated that the CBI’s raid on the CM’s principal secretary, Rajendra Kumar, was meant to target Kejriwal.

Reacting to Jaitley’s decision to sue AAP leaders, senior party leader Ashutosh said, “AAP is not here to be threatened by people like Arun Jaitley who does not believe in taking matters to the people’s court.”

Deputy CM Manish Sisodia said, “…In the past six days, it has been proven that Rajendra Kumar is just an excuse and the real target is Kejriwal.”

Defending Kumar, Sisodia said his salary account had just Rs 27 lakh and the CBI could not find any benami property. He also said the Rs 2.40 lakh which the agency recovered from Kumar’s home has been accounted for. “For the sixth consecutive day, Kumar has been interrogated. We have no objection to the inquiry because if something wrong has taken place, then it should be looked into. We will also take action in such a case,” said Sisodia.

“In the DDCA file, there is a note on how DDCA officials were called by Jaitley and assured that their crimes would be compounded and police cases managed. In the same meeting, the officials were told that if the Delhi government constituted an inquiry commission, it would be declared null and void by the Lieutenant Governor… The agency has been questioning Kumar time and again on the official who wrote the note,” stated Sisodia.

“They are forcing Kumar to tell them where he has kept the papers given to him by the DDCA… they threatened to arrest him and ruin his career otherwise. He has been harassed and pressurised,” he added.
