Pathankot chowk on Tuesday afternoon was gripped with panic after a ‘suspicious object’ was found inside an abandoned bag lying on the road.
Though the substance was assumed to be a bomb, it could not be detonated in a controlled environment by the bomb disposal squad. Police have sent the object for forensic examination and did not rule out the possibility of finding explosive substance in it.

Around 3:25 pm, one Person noticed an abandoned gunny bag and a mobile phone lying on a road in Pathankot chowk. He picked up the items and took them to his store. The man immediately informed the police after finding wires, a timer and some powder inside the bag.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) J Elanchezhian and ADPC Avneet Kondal rushed to the spot and immediately called the Bomb Disposal Squad, which took it to abandoned fields.
DC KK Yadav, Police Commissioner Yurinder Hayer, CPS and KD Bhandari also rushed to the spot. Operation continued for several hours.
