A 15-year-old girl succumbed to head injuries sustained when she fell down after a boy riding pillion on a motorcycle pulled at her dupatta in a suspected case of sexual harassment at Chainpur in Bihar’s Kaimur district on Tuesday, police said. Police said the incident took place when the girl, a Class 10 student, was on her way to Bahuara high school near Karjoun to appear for an examination. Police said that the boy who allegedly pulled at the girl’s dupatta was riding pillion along with another minor on a motorcycle driven by a 20-year-old man.
“The motorcylist also ended up running over the girl, who died on the spot,” said a police officer. Immediately after the incident, the accused fled the spot, said police. The two minor boys were taken into custody on Thursday while the bike driver, identified as Krishna Kumar, was absconding, said police.
“The girl was walking to school along with two other girls when Kumar and the two boys came up from behind on the motorcycle. The boy sitting in the back caught the dupatta of the girl and pulled at it. The dupatta wound around the girl’s neck as Kumar continued to drive and the girl fell, hitting her head on the road,” said a police officer. The girl was from Bakrabad while the accused belonged to a neighbouring village.

“The post-mortem report said that the girl died due to a head injury. The death could have taken place because of the impact of the fall,” said the officer. “We have been talking to the girl’s family and authorities at the school. We have also been conducting raids to arrest the main accused,” said J Reddy, Assistant SP, Kaimur.
Chainpur police said that there had been no previous complaints of harassment against the three accused, and confirmed that the two minor boys were not students of Bahuara high school.
