Students of IG Desai School in Surat will now be able to hear, visualise and experience the curriculum of different branches of science as well as social studies as the school has launched a 5D lab on the premises. On Friday, the Sarvoday trust-run school at Bhatar launched the Melzo Anubhav 5D lab, which, the school authorities claimed, is the first initiative of its kind for students. Integrating 5D effects and VR (virtual reality) technology fosters creativity and strengthens cognitive development among the students, said a senior official of the school who did not wish to be named. Run by followers of Gandhian ideology, over 90% of students at the school come from underprivileged backgrounds. Hardik Desai, the school trustee’s son, said, “We have created different chapters in visual mode and to experience the effect, we have built high-tech chairs that can rotate 360 degrees. Besides, they give out fragrance, water effect and vibration effect through VR headsets.” He further added, “The innovation enables them (the students) to transcend the boundaries of traditional education and experience the wonders of the universe, the depths of the ocean and the richness of history and science – all from within their classroom.” Parimal Desai, the school trustee, said, “We are the first school in India to integrate this transformative technology in our curriculum. It underscores our vision to create future-ready students well-equipped with the skills to thrive in a rapidly evolving world.”
