Work on the ongoing projects was affected after ethnic violence broke out in Manipur in May 2023. According to Singh, workers who lived in the periphery of Imphal were unable to travel to the city and supply of materials required for the projects was also disrupted.
“We are aiming to complete all our work by March. We have increased the number of workers from two shifts to three shifts a day. The government helped the contractors in bringing in the materials. We gave land to the contractors to set up barracks for workers at the sites so that they don’t have to travel,” Singh told The Indian Express on the sidelines of Convergence India Expo here on Thursday.
Among the projects completed are the redevelopment of a bridge at Kangla Fort known as Nongpok Thong (eastern bridge), riverfront development and development works, including lighting at the historic women-run market Ima Keithel, he said.
Meanwhile, the 100 cities in the Smart Cities Mission had completed 6,650 projects worth Rs 1.32 lakh crore as on January 15, the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs said on Thursday. Over 76,000 CCTV cameras had been installed in the 100 cities so far, it said.
