Himachal Pradesh witnessed season’s first snow in Shimla and adjoining towns of Kufri and Fagu on Sunday with intermittent snow in the higher altitudes of Lahaul and Spiti districts, leading to intensified cold conditions across the valleys.
Temperatures have notably dropped, with Tabo recording the lowest at minus 13.1 degrees Celsius. Other areas reported similarly frigid conditions: Kukumseri at minus 6.9 degrees, Kalpa at minus 3.3 degrees, Reckong Peo at minus 1 degree, and Narkanda at minus 0.8 degrees.
In Shimla, temperatures hovered around 2.5 degrees Celsius, while several other locations remained near freezing. Seobagh recorded a minimum temperature of zero degree Celsius, Bajaura 0.1 degree, Manali 0.2 degree, Kufri 0.4 degree, Solan 0.5 degree, Una 1 degree and Shimla 2.5 degrees.
Meanwhile, high-altitude tribal regions experienced fresh snowfall, prompting concerns about traffic disruptions. Lahaul district, where a thin layer of snow blanketed the area, hazardous travel conditions were noted due to slippery roads, news agency PTI reported.
The Meteorological Department has forecasted snow and rain at isolated places over the mid and high hills on Tuesday in the state as the maximum temperatures across the state fell below normal levels, with Una reaching only 22.8 degrees Celsius.
Additionally, the weather office has predicted rain and moderate snow at a few places over the Lahaul and Spiti, Chamba, Kinnaur, Kangra, Shimla and the Kullu districts and light precipitation in some places of the Solan, Sirmaur, Una, Bilaspur, Mandi and the Hamirpur districts till Monday.
The weather forecast indicates that temperatures are expected to decline further by 3 to 4 degrees over the next few days. Additionally, a ‘yellow’ warning for dense fog has been issued for parts of the Bhakra Dam reservoir area in Bilaspur and Balh Valley in Mandi until Wednesday.
The minimum and maximum temperatures are likely to gradually fall by 3 to 4 degrees over many parts of the state during the subsequent three days.
