The India Meteorological Department has issued a heatwave warning in parts of India, including Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh. In its daily weather bulletin on Tuesday, IMD said that heatwave conditions are very likely in isolated pockets of western and eastern Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday (April 18) and Wednesday (April 19), and will abate after that. For the next three days, Gangetic West Bengal and Bihar are very likely to experience a heatwave. For Odisha, Sikkim, and sub-Himalayan West Bengal, the forecast is for 'the next 24 hours' and for Jharkhand, on April 18 and 19. According to the IMD bulletin, Gangetic West Bengal has been dealing with heatwave conditions for six days now. On Monday, IMD issued an orange alert for West Bengal due to the prevailing conditions there. Bihar has also been experiencing a heatwave for the last two days. Meanwhile, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam are set to have heatwaves for the next two days. The area has been witnessing this weather condition for the last four days. The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) has issued a forecast for a severe heatwave in one mandal and heatwave conditions in 117 more across the state on Tuesday. Komarada mandal in Parvatipuram Manyam district is the lone cluster of villages expected to suffer severe heatwave. APSDMA managing director B R Ambedkar advised people to be wary of the sweltering weather and take necessary precautions. On Monday, maximum temperatures were above normal by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius over parts of north-west India, Madhya Pradesh, east and north-east India, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The temperatures were in the range of 40 to 43 degrees Celsius over north-west India, central and east India, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and interior parts of Gujarat and Maharashtra. Heatwave conditions persisted in parts of Delhi for the second consecutive day on Monday, with some weather stations recording maximum temperatures at least five degrees Celsius above normal.
