Gurgaon, Faridabad Election Results 2024 Highlights: Congress loses to BJP in Gurgaon & Faridabad, set for 3rd straight drubbing in Haryana

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s Mukesh Sharma is leading in Gurgaon constituency with 1,19,170 votes. Independent candidate Naveen Goyal, meanwhile, is trailing with 54,039 votes.

This update comes after 15 out of 16 rounds of counting, as per the ECI website.

ECI Election Results Haryana 2024: As Haryana election results roll in, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) seems to have defied exit poll predictions. It is leading in over 46 seats, on course to form the government in the state for an unprecedented third consecutive term.

Despite forecasts of a sweeping victory for the Indian National Congress, the BJP seems on way to improving its 2019 performance, when it secured 40 seats and had to ally with the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP).

Here are five factors that contributed to the BJP’s apparent success.

The Congress that was confident of returning to power in Haryana by ousting the BJP government after a decade was on the edge Tuesday as the BJP crossed the halfway mark in early trends, upsetting the grand old party’s calculations.

Though Congress leaders argued it was too early to count it out as only one-third of the votes had been counted, it was far from the sweep they had expected.

The trends signal a major setback to the Congress which was rejoicing at its performance in Haryana in the Lok Sabha elections — it won five of the 10 Lok Sabha seats — and was massively confident of wresting the state from the BJP.

Given its small size, Haryana, which was carved out of undivided Punjab on November 1, 1966, has had a disproportionately large impact on Indian national politics.

For almost 53 of the last 58 years, the state has been ruled by five leaders (and their families) — Bansi Lal, Devi Lal, Bhajan Lal, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, and Manohar Lal.

Haryana is where the expression Aaya Ram, Gaya Ram, a uniquely apt descriptor in Indian politics, was born; it is also perhaps the only state where a Governor was once allegedly manhandled by a claimant to the CM’s post.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s Mukesh Sharma is leading in Gurgaon constituency with 66,839 votes. Independent candidate Naveen Goyal, meanwhile, is trailing with 34,989 votes.

This update comes after 8 out of 16 rounds of counting, as per the ECI website.

Amid the counting of votes for the Haryana Assembly elections on Tuesday, Congress leader Pawan Khera said: “There is a mismatch in the actual number of rounds counted and the number of rounds being shown on the television through the Election Commission data. The EC data is lagging behind."

"They are still showing the 4th or the 5th round data while 11 rounds have been counted. Our General Secretary Communications has tweeted to the Election Commission asking as to why they are trying to put pressure on the local administration by delaying the display and uploading of data. In Jammu and Kashmir, you are getting live data with every round counted but in Haryana, it is not so," Khera added.

BJP’s Mukesh Sharma is leading in Gurgaon with 43,482 votes.

Independent candidate Naveen Goyal is in second place, followed by Congress’ Mohit Grover in third, after five out of 16 rounds of voting.

In Haryana, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading in 49 seats, while the Congress is ahead in 35 seats and the INLD is leading in 2, according to early trends by NDTV.

BJP’s Mukesh Sharma is leading in Gurgaon with 28,309 votes. Independent candidate Naveen Goyal is in second place, followed by Congress’ Mohit Grover in third, after three out of 16 rounds of voting.

According to the website of the Election Commission of India, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Vipul Goel is leading in Faribadad constituency, after three rounds of counting on Tuesday.

The party has managed to cross 14,000 votes, while the Congress party candidate Lakhan Kumar Singla stands at 9,858 votes.

Early trends, according to the Election Commission of India website, indicate that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading in Faridabad as well as Gurgaon constituencies, with a total of about 8,893 and 9,224 votes, respectively, as counting for the Haryana Assembly elections began on Tuesday.

The Congress is trailing in Faridabad with about 7,400 votes, while in Gurgaon, Independent candidate Naveen Goyal is at second spot.
