ON THE eve of the Budget Session of the Manipur Assembly, armed miscreants attacked the residence of an Additional Superintendent of police at Wangkhei in Imphal East district on Tuesday night. Four vehicles parked inside Additional SP M Amit Singh’s house were damaged in the attack. According to sources, this was followed by an exchange of fire between police personnel and the miscreants in which three people received bullet injuries. The miscreants were reportedly members of radical Meitei group Arambai Tenggol. According to official reports, the incident occurred around 7 pm. The ASP's father, Dr Moirangthem Kulachandra, said his son was not present at his residence when the incident occurred. Kulchandra said some people in some kind of uniform barged into the house and started ransacking the property. They opened fire following which the family members hid themselves, said the father. The motive behind the incident is yet to be ascertained, the police said.
