Two more people died of swine flu (H1N1) in Jamnagar in the last two days, taking the death toll due to the disease to three in the district. Meanwhile, six other persons were being treated for the virus and were in a stable condition on Monday, authorities said.
Both the deaths were reported from state government-run Guru Gobind Singh Hospital in Jamnagar city within 48 hours.
“A 45-year-old man died late on Saturday night while a woman, also 45 years old, succumbed to the virus at around 9 am on Monday. Both of them were admitted to the hospital in a critical condition two days before they died,” Dr Nandini Desai, medical superintendent of GG Hospital, told The Indian Express.
Dr Desaid further said that six other patients were also undergoing treatment at the hospital. “They are being treated in Swine Flu ward and their condition is stable.
One person whose test had come positive has recovered and has been discharged. Three other suspect cases have also come to light since the beginning of the month but their swine flu tests have come negative,” the medical superintendent added.
Dr Dinesh Dabhi, chief district health officer (DCHO) of Jamnagar said they were trying to raise awareness about the virus.
“The virus first attacks nose and throat of a person and if it is detected early, the diseases is curable. We are advising people to avoid going to crowded places and consult a doctor in case of catching cold and or having headache,” said the CDHO.
Incidentally, a 70-year-old woman had also died of swine flu in GG Hospital last week. All of the three patients who have died so far were residents of Jamnagar city and officials said their family members had been administered preventive medicines.
“In the calender yea 2014, 19 positive cases of swine flu and seven casualties due to the disease had been reported. This year, seven positive cases have come to light so far with three casualties,” Dr Dabhi added.
